In the past month, 14 deer have been killed within a half-mile stretch of road on Route 139 in Unity. This harsh winter, warming temperatures and unaware motorists are making deer-heavy areas of the state particularly dangerous recently.
I know deer hunting season isn't coming back for a while. It doesn't mean we can't get our fill of watching deer another way!

The deer population in Maine has rebounded to about 200,000, according to a state biologist. That's a nice recovery from when about a third of the Maine deer population died during the 2008-09 winter.
