The grand jury handed out indictments last week. Centramaine.com reports an Augusta man is accused of two counts of arson. A Gardiner man and Belgrade man indicted on sex charges that involved children.

Federal investigators are looking into the cause of death of a large right whale discovered near Boothbay Saturday. According to WABI, it was found tangled in ropes and was later towed into Portland Harbor. The official cause of death has not been determined but experts point to severe entanglement. Right whales are federally protected, with only 500 left in the North Atlantic.

Gov. Paul LePage says he can't be wrong 100 percent of the time but that's how he's portrayed in the media. LePage used a Constitution Week Forum at his alma mater, Husson University, to take a shot at the news coverage of his administration last week. He says news reporters are more interested in a catching him in "seven-second sound bite" than issues like fighting poverty and taking care of the elderly.

Maine is getting a clearer picture of how much it may have to pay of a maximum $29 million fine for failing to meet federal welfare-to-work standards from 2007 through 2014. Federal officials say the state is looking at up to $12 million in penalties for the years 2008 through 2010 after it failed to meet a corrective action plan recently that could have eliminated penalties for that period. The total fine for the eight-year period, however, remains unknown as officials continue their review.

Court documents indicate a Maine man charged with killing his wife told police he watched her overdose, but an autopsy shows she was shot twice in the head. Luc Tieman was ordered held without bail Friday during his first court appearance since being charged with murder in the death of Valerie Tieman. Her body was found Tuesday a couple of hundred yards behind her in-laws' home in Fairfield. (Additional information from the Bangor Daily News on the Tieman story)

The flu's already arrived in Maine, and state experts say it's time to get vaccinated. The cases are a bit earlier than in past years, but Maine's epidemiologist says it's not unusual.

First responders in some U.S. communities say they are hearing backlash about their lifesaving efforts in the heroin epidemic from people weary of continued drug abuse and related social problems. Authorities say people question the time and resources spent on the lives of addicts who often immediately resume using the potentially deadly drug. There are also concerns about the wide-ranging costs involved, including for the overdose antidote naloxone.

Golf great Arnold Palmer is dead at age 87. Palmer died Sunday afternoon of complications from heart problems. The CEO of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, Alastair Johnston, says Palmer was admitted to a Pittsburgh hospital Thursday for some cardiovascular work and weakened over the last few days.

The Miami Marlins are mourning teammate Jose Fernandez, who was killed in a boating accident Sunday at age 24. Authorities say Fernandez was killed with two other people when their 32-foot vessel slammed into a jetty off Miami Beach. Marlins executive and Hall of Famer Tony Perez says, "All I can do is scream in disbelief."

Several thousand people in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, have fled their homes as floodwaters spill out of the rising Cedar River, and officials say it could be days before they can return. The river crested Saturday night in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, about 55 miles upstream from Cedar Rapids. The National Weather Service predicts that the river will crest at 23 feet in Cedar Rapids Tuesday morning.

Court records show that the 20-year-old man accused of killing five people at a Macy's makeup counter in Washington state has more than a half-dozen criminal cases on his record in Island County alone since 2013. A neighbor of Arcan Cetin says he was so "creepy, rude and obnoxious" that she kept a Taser by her front door. Cetin was captured nearly 24 hours after Friday night's shooting at the Cascade Mall in Burlington.

Two men are under arrest and a 17-year-old girl is being detained on suspicion of killing three people inside a Southern California home over the weekend. Police in Fullerton won't say if the 17-year-old is the missing daughter of two of the victims. But police say the victims' teen daughter was found unharmed after an alert was issued. On Saturday, police found the bodies of Christopher and Jennifer Goodwill Yost and a family friend. Two girls, ages 6 and 9, were found unharmed.
