Chris Stapleton's "Broken Halos" has taken the crown in the Song of the Year category at the 2018 CMA Awards. This year's nominees included Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road" (Zach Crowell, Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne), Chris Stapleton's "Broken Halos" (Mike Henderson and Chris Stapleton), Jason Aldean's "Drowns the Whiskey" feat. Miranda Lambert (Brandon Kinney, Jeff Middleton and Josh Thompson), Chris Janson's "Drunk Girl" (Scooter Carusoe, Tom Douglas and Chris Janson) and Dan + Shay's "Tequila" (Nicolle Galyon, Jordan Reynolds and Dan Smyers).

Lady Antebellum presented Stapleton and with the award just after hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley joked about him dozing off during their opening parody song of Buck Owens' "Act Naturally." He accepted the award alongside Henderson, stunned, saying, "Uh, I didn't expect this one. Man, thank you."

Stapleton wrote "Broken Halos" alongside Mike Henderson. The pair's song took home the trophy for Best Country Song at the 2018 Grammy Awards thanks to the tune.
