Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones recently said when he was a child he loved to hang out at the local library and read, which is all well and good; the only problem is he checked out books, but never returned them. A receptionist at the Dartford Library said going back 50 years to find out how much he would owe is tough.

If the fine for overdue books is 10 cents a day, Richards owes somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000. The library says when fines go back that far; they usually only charge around $150.00. Richards spent time in the library because, as he says, ‘it was the only place he would obey the laws, like silence, and it was somewhere he could find out about things that interested him’.
