After 84 Years, Popeye is Still a Popular Cartoon

‘I’m Popeye the sailor man..toot toot.' In 1929 the Popeye comics, first appeared and our ‘sailor’ man has been a favorite since.  The original Popeye had characters like Olive Oyl, her first boyfriend Ham Gravy and her parents Cole and Nana Oyl.The comic strip was created by Elzie Segar and went on to be one of the most popular cartoon characters of all time. Popeye’s first word was in response to the question ‘Are you a sailor?’  Popeye said, ‘Ja think I’m cowboy?’ Popeye's popularity really took off when he was featured in a Betty Boop cartoon.
