After being closed for three years, a heritage Rockland restaurant has announced that it will be re-opening this summer.

According to an article in the Bangor Daily News, The Pearl, which sits on a pier in Rockland Harbor and provides diners with amazing views, was last open in the summer of 2018.  At that time, it was operated by Rockland native Larry Reed.  Recently, Reed announced that he was stepping back in to run the restaurant.

The plan is for the restaurant to operate in tandem with Eclipse of The Pearl, which is located at the base of the same pier.  During the summer, Eclipse of The Pearl will close and all regular diner business will be directed to The Pearl.  During that time, Eclipse will be used as an event center, hosting weddings, parties, etc.

Over the last half century, many restaurants have been located in that area.  The original building was burned and rebuilt.

A lot of work was done on the pier last year, but there is necessary work that needs to be done to the building before they can open.  Assuming the work continues as planned, the hope is that work will be completed in the spring and that the restaurant will re-open sometime around the 20th of June.

We wish Reed the best of luck with this new business.
