He came in as a dark horse and went out as a knight with a shiny guitar, as American Justin Howard won the 17th Air Guitar Championships in Finland. This was the second time Howard competed in The World Championship losing at the world finals in 2011, taking home the silver medal.

 

Howard whose nickname is ‘Nordic Thunder’, got through to the finals in the Dark Horse Qualifying Round this year and won gold.  Another American Matt ‘Aristotle’ Burns came in second with a score of 34, 4, Nordic Thunder barely won with a score of 34, 6.

The Air Guitar Championship finals are held at Rotuaari Square in Oulu, Northern Finland. This year was no different from past years as Air Guitarist from all over the world came to compete. The purpose of the Air Guitar Championship is to promote world peace. As is tradition all contestants took to the stage to play Air Guitar to Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’  in the Free World. The final was hosted by American air guitar guru Dan ‘Bjorn Turoque’ Crane.
