Maine Sheriff’s Deputy’s Cruiser Rammed During High-Speed Chase

According to an article on the WGME website, authorities say a man accused of driving a stolen pickup truck led law enforcement on a dangerous high-speed chase through Penobscot County on Thursday.  The chase only ended when he allegedly intentionally ramming police cruisers and being taken into custody in Corinth.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, deputies first received reports of a GMC pickup doing donuts in a public area in Hudson. The truck reportedly had significant front-end damage, which helped officers identify it.

Investigators determined the pickup had been stolen from Bangor earlier that night and had already been involved in a pursuit with Bangor Police. Authorities say the truck was also connected to multiple crashes and had been driven recklessly through a public park.

When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly fled, leading officers on a chase during which the truck crossed into oncoming traffic. During the pursuit, police say the driver intentionally rammed a deputy's cruiser and attempted to strike other police vehicles, damaging a second cruiser.

Authorities deployed spike strips, but the truck continued despite driving on its rims. The pursuit finally ended in Corinth after a second truck struck the stolen GMC in a parking lot, allowing officers to take the driver into custody.

Police identified the driver as 22-year-old Andrew Wright, who they describe as a transient. Wright is charged with Aggravated Driving to Endanger, Eluding an Officer, Criminal Speed, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Trespass by Motor Vehicle, and Operating Without a License.
