Maine State Police Investigating Shooting of Woman By Three Masked Men
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, a woman is recovering from gunshot wounds she received at a residence in Knox.
Thursday afternoon around 4:25, Troopers from the Central Field Troop were called to Bailey Road in Knox for a report of a shooting. In the press release, the address was listed as 1580 Bailey Road.
When Troopers arrived, they learned the victim had already been taken to the hospital. The victim is identified as 40-year-old Astin Elwell of Knox. She was first taken to Waldo General Hospital in Belfast. She was later taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where she is being treated for injuries that are not considered life threatening.
Investigators say three men showed up at the home in a gold or tan Jeep Cherokee. The men were wearing ski masks. When Elwell opened the door, one of the men fired a shot. The group quickly took off after the shooting.
Troopers later found a vehicle that may be connected to the case behind a nearby home. That vehicle has been seized so investigators can go through it for evidence. At this point, the three men have not been found.
Police say there is no known danger to the public. They believe this was an isolated situation. The State Police Evidence Response Team spent hours on scene collecting anything that could help lead to answers.
State Police received help from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, and local fire and EMS crews. Anyone with information is asked to call the Augusta Regional Communications Center at 207 624 7076.
