Augusta & Hallowell the Latest Maine Municipalities Moving to 4-Day Work Week

While the trend picked-up speed during the pandemic, we had all been discussing the idea of 4-day work weeks even before 2020.

Of course, in many cases, the idea of a 4-day work week would be impossible.  We need to have first responders on duty 24-hours a day, convenience stores need to be open, and who would do the Friday morning shows on your favorite radio station if we all had 4-day work weeks?  Right?

Well, it looks like two more Maine municipalities will soon have a 4-day work week.

According to an article on the KJ website, both Augusta and Hallowell municipal offices will begin 4-day work weeks this summer.

The article explains that the Hallowell City Hall will be open to the public from 8 AM to 5 PM.  The staff will actually be in the office an extra hour per day.  That non-public time is meant to give them additional time to work on paperwork and other tasks.  This new schedule will start on June 29th.

Starting July 13th, the Augusta City Center will implement a similar schedule.  The offices will be open from 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday.

The idea behind these extended hours is to give people who work normal (9 to 5) jobs more opportunities to get into the office to register vehicles, pay taxes, etc.
