If your daily commute normally takes you through downtown Augusta, you may want to find an alternate route on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

According to a press release from the City of Augusta alert system, work on the Calumet Bridge (the smallest of the three Augusta bridges crossing the Kennebec River in Augusta) will require one lane to be closed on both Wednesday and Thursday.

The alert says, in part:

MaineDOT will be performing work on the Calumet Bridge (the small bridge near Old Fort Western) this week. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 4th at 6:00 AM, the westbound lane (heading toward Water Street) will be closed and detoured. On Thursday, June 5th at 6:00 AM, the closure and detour will switch to the eastbound lane (heading toward Cony Circle).

If you would normally cross the river on the Calumet Bridge, your best bet would be to use the Memorial Bridge, instead.

During the work, you are going to want to allow extra time to get where you are going and you are asked to be patient.

Barring any kind of issue, traffic is expected to return to normal by 6 a.m. on Friday, June 6th.
