Augusta Principal Takes Elementary Level Maine Principal of the Year Award

Here in Maine, we are fortunate to have some of the best educators in the world.

Of course, behind every great educator, are great administrators.

Administrators like Gilbert Elementary School Principal Dr. Christina Boursaw.

Augusta Principal Takes National Distinguished Principal of the Year Award

Dr. Christina Boursaw, the principal at the Sylvio J Gilbert School in Augusta has been awarded the National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principal Award for 2025.

Boursaw has been the principal at Gilbert School since 2022.

Prior to assuming her role in the Augusta School District, she was the principal at the Edgecomb Eddy School.  Before moving to Maine in 2021, Doctor Boursaw spent eight years working as a school administrator in California.

A press release from the Maine Principal's Association says, in part:

Ms. Boursaw has been recognized as the 2025 Maine NAESP National Distinguished Principal, a testament to her dedication and leadership in fostering a thriving school community. As the heart of the school, she is deeply invested in shaping a dynamic school-wide culture and championing strong academic practices. Under her leadership, student achievement has seen remarkable growth, and a profound sense of community has flourished.

The press release goes on to say that she is an active member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the Maine Principals’ Association.

As the parent of two children who have attended Gilbert School during Dr. Boursaw’s time there, I can tell you that she has had a major impact on the already amazing staff at Gilbert Elementary.  As for the greater Gilbert community, she is always looking for ways to increase engagement with the parents and guardians of the school's students.

Dr. Boursaw will be honored at the MPA's annual Night of Excellence. That event will take place at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on May 22nd.

At the high school level, Caribou High School's Jamie Selfridge took the Maine Principal of the Year Award.  You can read more about her and her accomplishments from this WAGM article.
