According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, a 44 year old Augusta man is facing charges following a Thursday evening fire at his apartment.

According to police, Gerald Stackpole reportedly set off fireworks inside the Jefferson Street, Augusta, apartment where he resides.

Using fire extinguishers and a garden hose, the other tenants were able to put the fire out.  No one was injured in the incident.

Stackpole reportedly left the scene, but was tracked down by members of the Augusta Police Department.

Stackpole was charged with Arson and taken to the Kennebec County Jail where bail was set at $20,000 cash.

Gerald Stackpole was due to be arraigned on Friday.
