Augusta city counselors have expressed interest in regulating medical marijuana caregivers from operating out of their homes. According to Centralmaine.com an informal straw poll took place after a long discussion on how the city can regulate the sales. It has been indicated that they do not want to allow retail sales of medical marijuana inside residential zone areas. They could however sell out of their home if they live in a commercial zone district.

Mayor David Rollins says the city is within rights to regulate these sales because it would make them follow the rules that apply to any business i.e. pharmacies, doctors offices, dentists, etc. Although some residents have spoken out against this, councilors whom have expressed concerns about the potential effect of medical marijuana caregivers operating in their homes on their neighbors, agreed to take up the issue again in a workshop session, probably next week.
