According to a report in the KJ, an Augusta woman faces numerous charges after she allegedly hit a police cruiser and led police on a high speed chase.

The incident happened on Monday (December 27th) night in Augusta.

At about 7:45 PM, Officer Simon Yorks , who had just finished dealing with a crash on Civic Center Drive, spotted Katelynn Marie McLaughlin's car.  Yorks knew she had warrants out for her arrest for burglary, forgery, theft and violating condition of release.  Yorks attempted to stop her vehicle.  Instead of stopping, she fled, hitting his cruiser in the process.  Fortunately, he was not injured in the crash.

The chase reached speeds of 80 mph and involved two police cruisers. It ended when McLaughlin drove beyond the dead-end on Wade Road and struck a telephone pole, wrecking her vehicle.  Following the crash, she was taken to MaineGeneral to make sure she was not injured.

She has been charged with eluding an officer, motor vehicle speeding more than 30 mph over the speed limit, violating condition of release, refusing to submit to arrest or detention — physical force, and aggravated criminal mischief.

There is no word on when she is due back in court.

Remember, all suspects are assumed to be innocent until convicted in court.
