Are you serious? It's going to get really cold in Maine in the middle of January? Say it ain't so! Yeah, we know, it's not much of a surprise, but it's something people should be aware is coming, especially when it's going to be this cold.

The next two nights (Monday & Tuesday nights) will be the coldest Central Maine has seen all year. Monday night, temperatures will plummet to sub-zero levels with wind chills approaching -15 or more.

Tuesday during the day isn't a whole lot better. Central Mainers can expect Tuesday temps to barely break above 0 with an afternoon high of 5 degrees expected in Augusta and surrounding towns.

Tuesday night it plummets back to sub-zero again with overnight temperatures expected to reach -2 with another significant impact due to wind chill. Expect those Tuesday night temps to feel more like 15-20 below 0.

Wednesday temperatures rebound to more seasonal levels as the afternoon high will reach 25. And, let's face it, after Monday and Tuesday's temps, 25 will feel like a freakin' heat wave!

The point in alerting you to this? Safety. Maybe you have an elderly neighbor, animals that typically live outside or an outdoor event that you may want to reschedule. Whatever you're doing over the next couple days, please consider the dangerous outdoor temps first.
