The bears in Maine had the right idea to sleep through this long, cold and snowy winter. The weather is finally starting to warm up and the bears are waking up from hibernation. They are waking up and they are hungry.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife advise that Mainers take down bird feeders between April 1st and December 1st.

Bird feeders are especially tempting. They offer a tasty treat of seeds, nuts and berries that appeal to a bear's pallet.

I just put up a bird feeder in my yard about two months ago and I enjoy sitting in the kitchen and looking out of the window and seeing robins, cardinals and all of the other birds. I am almost out of bird seed, so I will grudging heed the advice and take my bird feeder down once I am out of bird seed.
