The Best All-You-Can-Eat Buffet in Maine Will Shock You
Even if you don't have a massive appetite, you have to admit there is something thrilling about visiting an all-you-can-eat buffet.
When I was a teen, one of the highlights of every high school music trip was a visit to Miller's Restaurant in Bangor. Even though the iconic restaurant has been closed for over a decade, I still remember what a treat it was to eat there.
The salad bar and buffet had dozens of options, from pizza to fried seafood, chicken tenders, a variety of vegetables, and even a roast beef carving station. And after dinner, there was a well-stocked dessert bar.
Sadly, Millers closed down in May of 2010.
I still miss the place.
Even though the pandemic restrictions of 2020 hurt a lot of buffet-style restaurants, some did survive. Many of those specialize in Chinese cuisine or pizza, but there are still a few general buffets.
Recently, Reader's Digest put out their list of the best all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants in each state.
Their choice for Maine was a bit of a surprise.
The article's author chose a college cafeteria! Yes, it's true. Their selection for the best buffet in Maine was the Oceanview Dining Hall at Southern Maine Community College.
In addition to offering food for the college's staff and students, it is open to the public. The dining hall serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu is always rotating, and it is cheap. A meal only costs about $7.
Plus, the dining hall's large picture windows offer diners picturesque views of the water.
Keep in mind that it is closed for the summer. When they are in operation, you can get their hours of operation and a peek at the day's menu HERE.
