Even though we are a rural state, Maine is blessed with many amazing restaurants.  While many of these are chain restaurants, even more are locally owned and operated.

On Water Street in Augusta alone, we have State Lunch, Whiskey Kitchen, Lisa's Legit BurritosCushnoc, Otto's on the River, the Oak Table, Downtown Diner, and Riverfront BBQ.

If you want to include bakeries and coffee shops to that mix you can also say Wrapped Up, Queen B's, and J.Marie Cake Company.

This is not exclusive to Augusta, either.  Nearly every Maine town and city has at least a few really standout local restaurants and eateries.

Have you ever wondered about the best locally owned restaurant in Maine?

We have the answer!

The Best Family-Owned Restaurants in America

Recently, Love Food put out their list of the best family-owned restaurants in America.  In most cases, they selected one restaurant for each state.

However, two restaurants were selected for a few of the more populated states, like California.

The food website's choice for Maine was Isa Bistro on Portland Street in Portland.

With a focus on fine dining American cuisine, the restaurant's current menu features grilled octopus, seared cod loin, marinaded and grilled steak, and pork schnitzel.

The bistro is open for dinner from Wednesday through Monday.  They are also open for lunch on Fridays.

While they do offer curbside takeout, you miss out on the full experience by taking the food home.
