Bezos’ Ex-Wife Donates Big To Maine Nonprofits

According to Maine Biz, Mackenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated big to several Maine charities.

You may have heard that she was giving over a FOUR BILLION dollars of her fortune to more than 300 charities.

Three of those recipients were here in Maine.  They are Coastal Enterprises Inc., the Good Shepherd Food Bank and Goodwill of Northern New England.

Coastal Enterprises is a Brunswick-based community development financial institution that has announced it has gotten a pledge of $10 million from Scott.

Staff from the Good Shepherd Food Bank has announced they will tell us how much money they'll be getting from her in early 2021.

Goodwill of Northern New England, which is described as being a a social services organization, has said they will not announce the amount of the donation, but will provide more details about the donation at a later date.

Scott's team initially looked at 6,500 organizations from across the country.  They narrowed that list down to 822.  That 822 were narrowed down to the 384 recipients. The recipients — which span all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico — include food banks, emergency relief funds, debt relief organizations, job training programs, civil rights groups and others.  The other 428 (of the 822) organizations have been put on a hold.
