As you've probably heard, Bath Iron Works has been on a hiring frenzy lately.  As the US Navy has awarded them a series of contracts, they've ramped up their hiring of everything from tin smiths, to welders, to security people, to cafeteria workers.

In particular, they really want to fill their ranks with welders.

According to the Lewiston Sun Journal, Bath Iron Works is already partnered with Southern Maine Community College to offer free entry-level manufacturing courses.

They're now offering students enrolled in the three week courses a $500/week stipend.

Additionally, when they complete the course, they'll be entitled to an interview.  However, being hired is not guaranteed.

The shipyard has hired 1,000 people in 2019 and plans to do the same in 2020.

The shipyard has a contract to build 11 Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers in the next eight years.
