According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, the remains of a Maine man who had been missing for nearly a year were discovered.

The press release explains that, on April 19, various law enforcement agencies were involved in the search of a wooded area in Stark, New Hampshire.  Human remains were found during that search.

The press release explains that the remains were:

transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord, New Hampshire. Over the weekend investigators worked to process the scene where the remains were discovered and worked with the medical examiner’s office to make an identification.

According to the press release, the deceased has been positively identified as 34-year-old Alex Jackson of Windham, Maine.

The cause and manner of his death are not being released at this time.

According to family and friends, Jackson had last been seen on May 12, 2023.  A missing persons report was filed on May 14, 2023, because it was not normal for him to be out of contact for several days.

The press release goes on to say that additional information will be released when it is appropriate to do so.

In late March, 30-year-old Joseph Chute of Leeds had been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Alex Jackon.  Chute has reportedly been charged with murder.  You can find the latest on that story here.

NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law.
