Wednesday morning (May 15th) 31-year-old Konstantinos Rigas of Boothbay Harbor used a bayonet to threaten a woman and then police upon their arrival resulting in an over two-hour standoff.

The incident occurred 31 Oak Street around 11:15 am.

The unidentified female victim reportedly barricaded herself in a third-floor room and made contact with police while Rigas threatened her with the weapon. She was rescued via a ladder from the local fire department.

Rigas was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and charged with the following:

  • DV criminal threatening w/ dangerous weapon
  • DV assault 1 prior
  • Assault (on police)
  • Refusing to submit to arrest (physical force)
  • Creating a Police standoff
  • Four counts of Terrorizing

Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt during the incident.

Boothbay Harbor Police Chief, Robert Hasch noted in his press release that the Police Department has a longstanding relationship with Rigas' family and noted recent tragedies they've faced and asked for "courtesy, respect, and support to them in their time of need."
