Hear Brad Paisley’s New Honky-Tonk Tune, ‘Bucked Off’
On Tuesday (Nov. 13), Brad Paisley dropped his brand-new single, "Bucked Off." Readers can press play above to hear the tune, written by Paisley, Chris DuBois and Kelley Lovelace.
Ahead of its release, Paisley noted that "Bucked Off" reminds him of "the reason I wanted to do country music." He calls the heartbreak song his "George Strait moment" -- or, rather, his own version of that; as such, the chorus nods to the King of Country Music's song "The Cowboy Rides Away."
"This ain’t my first rodeo / Someone’s gonna get hurt," Paisley sings in the chorus of "Bucked Off." "It feels like there’s a number / Pinned on to the back of my shirt / ‘Cause this is where the cowboy gets bucked off."
Paisley describes "Bucked Off" as a throwback "honky-tonk song," in the vein of his more lighthearted material. He admits that he hopes he'll hear the song coming out of Nashville's famous bars when walking down Broadway.
"I love the throwback thing right now," Paisley says. "You can't have too much of that for me."
Paisley is working with producer Dann Huff on his new music. He says the song's demo is "way down-the-middle traditional," but Huff wanted to make the guitars on the song "in your face."
"What we wound up with, and I think that's magical, is, if you turn the song on in the verse, it's the country-est thing on the radio," Paisley explains, "and then if you turn it on in the chorus, it's about the rockin'-est thing on the radio right now."
Paisley will officially debut "Bucked Off" during the 2018 CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 14), before the song impacts country radio on Nov. 19. Paisley is co-hosting the CMAs with Carrie Underwood, for the 11th consecutive year.
