Our thoughts go out to the Bucksport High School community.

According to an article on the WABI website, longtime Bucksport High School's Golden Bucks football coach Joel Sankey has passed away.

Sankey had reportedly been involved in the sports programs as far back as the 1970s and forged the high school football team into a powerhouse.  For years, the team was a force to be reckoned with and, in 2004, the team took the state championship.

He retired from coaching the Golden Bucks in 2023.  A teacher for many years, he continued on as a substitute.  He reportedly subbed for a class as recently as last week.
