We Bet You Didn’t Realize You Could Camp at This Iconic Maine Attraction
There is no doubt that Maine is home to some of the most magical camping spots in New England.
Maine is home to an amazing variety of campgrounds, too. We have campgrounds that allow you to camp right on the ocean, campgrounds where you can pitch a tent in the deepest part of Maine's forests, and resort-style campgrounds that offer nearly every amenity that a luxury hotel would offer.
What is the most unique camping spot in Maine?
Recently, Atlas Obscura put out their list of the country's most unique camping spots.
For Maine, they selected the Desert of Maine.
Yes, the iconic Maine attraction offers guests the option of camping next to the desert.
According to the attraction's website, they offer a variety of glamping tents, A-frame cabins, and luxury cabins.
The website says, in part:
The campground at the Desert of Maine has recently been renovated so it lives up to its magical surroundings. This quiet and luxurious campground is nestled in among tall Northern Pine trees, on the edge of the dunes. It is close to Freeport and Portland but it feels like it is a world away from everything. We have a variety of luxury cabins and glamping tents to choose from!
Of course, the rate depends on which lodging you choose and when you choose to stay. Mid-week in May is much cheaper than a weekend night in July.
