If you know me, you probably known that I am an adventurous eater.  I am all about trying new restaurants.  That's one of the reasons I was super excited when I spotted a new food truck parked along Western Avenue in Augusta.

I had spotted the Shawarma Express trailer parked in a Western Avenue parking lot earlier this week.  But, when I rolled past on Wednesday night, I noticed the business appeared to be open.  I had to stop to see if they were really open, so I turned around and drove into the parking lot.

Mohammed, the owner of the Shawarma Express food truck (well, trailer), explained they were in the middle of a soft opening and planned to hold a grand opening on Tuesday, May 24th.

What Is Shawarma?

According to Wikipedia, shawarma is meat (generally chicken, turkey, beef, or lamb) that is roasted on a rotating spit.  As it spins, the meat is shaved off in thin slices.  It is often then made into a wrap using pita bread.

It is one of the most popular street foods in the world.

The name is an Arabic take off of a Turkish word meaning "turning".  In this case, it refers to the spinning of the rotisserie spit.

In addition to the chicken shawarmas, they will be selling gyros, falafel, and loaded fries.

You can find this food trailer parked at 25 Western Avenue in Augusta.  Once fully open, they will be open from 11-ish to about 7:30 Tuesday through Sunday.

Check out their Facebook page for a menu and for current hours.

As we always love seeing new businesses in our area, we wish them the best!
