There are so many great things about living in the State of Maine - the people, the cool small towns, and, of course, the scenery.  Much of the state is nearly untouched pristine wilderness.

However, sometimes, people just feel the need to ruin it for others.

According to WGME, the small Central Maine town of Livermore is dealing with an issue at Brettuns Pond.

The TV station's article explains that people have been leaving litter and feces at the pond's beach.  People have been making complaints about the trash on the beach for the last 4+ years, it seems the problem has been growing over the last few years.

Residents have complained about finding litter, needles, and feces on the beach.  And, according to the report, a dead cat was found there in 2018.

In 2022, there have been at least three complaints.  One of those complaints came from a septic company that had an issue when they emptying a porta-potty.  Their vacuum system reportedly got clogged by something

Residents who frequently use the pond's beach say they do not believe it is locals who are causing the issues.  They are under the impression it is people from neighboring towns or visitors to the area.  Brettuns Pond, by the way, is only open to residents of Livermore.

Some locals are suggesting that the area should be fenced off and require passes in order to access the beach.

If you are a resident and have concerns about the issue, you can attend the next select board meeting.  It will take place on August 16 at 6:30 PM.
