Thousands of Maine Residents Without Power Due to Strong Storms

The strong storms that rolled across Maine earlier today have caused numerous power outages.

According to an article on the WABI website, Central Maine Power is reporting more than 33,000 customers without electricity across 105 separate outages.  Utility crews are continuing to assess storm damage and restore service as quickly as possible.

In the northern and eastern part of the state, Versant Power is dealing with widespread outages.  As of 2 PM, Versant had  nearly 5,000 customers without power tied to 64 active incidents.

Some of the hardest-hit areas include Bethel, Farmington, Rome, Waterville, Unity, Dexter, and the Greater Bangor region, where fallen trees and damaged power lines have disrupted service.

Officials are reminding residents to stay away from downed power lines and use caution around trees and other storm debris.  Customers without electricity are encouraged to report outages through their utility provider and monitor outage maps for the latest information on restoration efforts.

Both Central Maine Power and Versant Power say estimated restoration times will become clearer once crews have completed damage assessments throughout the affected areas.

Fortunately, it looks like the storms will be long gone by late this afternoon.  Great news for anyone planning outdoor activities on Thursday evening.
