Maine State Police Investigating Death in Sanford
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in the backyard of a Sanford home early Thursday morning.
The Sanford Police Department responded to a residence on Twombley Road shortly after 5 a.m. on August 20 after receiving a report of a deceased male near a fire pit.
Sanford police notified the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office, which then contacted the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-South. Detectives and investigators from all three agencies remained at the scene throughout the day.
The remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Authorities say the man’s identity, as well as the cause and manner of death, remain pending.
The investigation is ongoing, but officials say there is no danger to the public. No additional information is available at this time, and authorities say further updates will be provided as appropriate.
