Unless you are independently wealthy, there is a good chance that you are trying to save money.

Sometimes, you fall into a trick that will allow you to save hundreds of dollars, but in most cases, your savings will just be a few cents.  However, you need to remember that all of these pennies add up.

The desire to save money is one of the main reasons that so many people are shopping at discount stores.  One of the most popular discount stores is Dollar General.

One of the great things about Dollar General is that it fills in a middle ground between the really cheap discount stores (where you find all off-brand products) and the regular big box stores.  You can find brand-name products, but they are all at discounted prices.

What if we told you there was a trick that could save you even more at Dollar General?

Penny Shopping at Dollar General

According to a recent article on the Daily Dot website, certain items are marked down to a penny each week.

According to the article, these are not meant to save shoppers money.  The price drop is actually meant to indicate to store employees that those items need to be pulled from store shelves in order to make room for better selling products.

The markdowns typically happen on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.  You want to get to the store earlier in the day on those days to make sure that get the items before they are pulled from the shelves.

It has been suggested that you get the Dollar General app so you can scan the items before you take them to the cash register to make sure the item is on the list.

It has also been suggested that you use a self-checkout (if you can find one at your local store) because the staff may not sell you the items.
