One of the most popular ice cream stands in Central Maine has reopened for the season.

In addition to the 161 College Avenue location in Waterville, you can find Dairy Queens on KMD in Waterville and Bangor Street in Augusta.

The Dairy Queen brand has been around for over eighty years.  Currently, there are about 6,800 locations around the world.A

ccording to the Dairy Queen website, the first Dairy Queen opened in Joliet, Illinois in 1940.  Back then, Dairy Queen was just doing soft-serve ice cream.  In 1949, they added shakes and malts to the menu.  Believe it or not, the iconic Blizzard was not added to the menu until 1985!
