Even though they do occasionally happen, drive by shootings in Maine are a rare occurrence.

Typically, there is only one or two across the entire state each year.  Most of the time, these happen in Maine's larger cities like Lewiston, Bangor, or Portland.  Normally, you do not expected to hear about such incidents happening in rural Maine.

However, it is starting to sound like one happened in the small Central Maine town of Clinton earlier this week.

According to an article on the WABI website, police in Clinton are asking for the public’s help after multiple gunshots were fired Monday night, including one that went into a home.

Investigators say someone was shooting out of the passenger side of a car while driving along Canaan Road.  The incident happened in the area of the 300 or 400 block of the road as the vehicle made its way toward Canaan.

The shooting incident reportedly happened sometime between 8:30 and 9 PM

Officers later recovered several shell casings, but thankfully no one was hurt.

At this point, police say they do not know the reason behind the gunfire.

Anyone with information or camera footage is asked to call Clinton Police at 426-9192 and ask for Detective Sergeant Smith.

Officials also remind people in the area to stay alert and report any suspicious vehicles or activity.
