Former Maine Politician Arrested For Allegedly Violating Probation
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, former Maine politician Eliot Cutler was arrested Monday afternoon in South Portland.
Maine State Police say members of the Special Victims Unit encountered the 79-year-old Brooklin resident around 4:20 p.m. while they were in Cumberland County on an unrelated investigation and staying at a hotel in South Portland.
During that interaction, detectives determined Cutler was in violation of the conditions of his probation. After consulting with his probation officer, Cutler was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he is being held on a probation hold.
No additional information has been released at this time.
According to an article on the WGME website, Cutler had been convicted on child pornography charges in 2023. Prosecutors in that case claimed he possessed more than 80,000 images of children who appeared to be under the age of 12. He has been arrested several times for allegedly violating his probation.
