Central Maine Man Dead Following Monday Morning Crash
If your morning drive typically takes you through Winslow, you may have encountered a significant traffic backup on Route 201 on Monday morning.
We now have additional details about the cause of that backup.
According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, one person was killed and two were injured in a Monday morning crash near Taylor Road in Winslow.
The article explains that, at about 5:45 AM, 34-year-old Nicholas Blanchard of Augusta was driving his 2017 Chevy Trax north on Route 201 when his vehicle collided with a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 21-year-old Dominic Reid, of Waterville.
Sadly, Reid died at the scene.
Reid's passenger, 21-year-old Jasmine French, was taken to Thayer Hospital with minor injuries.
Blanchard sustained minor injuries in the crash, but was not taken to the hospital. Blanchard was the only person in his vehicle.
According to the article, members of the Maine State Police are in the process of reconstructing the crash. The crash remains under investigation, but it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors.
As one of the main commuter roads between Waterville/Winslow and Augusta, that section of Route 201 sees a significant amount of crashes each year.
According to data from the Maine Department of Transportation, there have been over 60 crashes on Route 201 between Augusta and Winslow since 2016. In many cases, these were fender-benders. However, many did result in serious injuries, and a handful resulted in the death of at least one person.
While we do not know the cause of Monday morning's crash, we still ask that you drive as if the other drivers are your close friends and family.
