Maine Teen Dead Following Sunday Morning Crash
A teenager from Lincoln, Maine, is dead following a Sunday morning crash in Wales.
According to a press release from the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a crash on Route 132 in Wales at about 9:46 on Sunday morning.
The press release explains that it appears that a 2019 VW Tiguan, driven by 17-year-old Sophie Blomsma, crossed the center line and collided with a logging truck driven by 49-year-old Nathaniel Bell.
The press release says, in part:
The head-on crash took place in between Bull Run Rd and Leeds Junction Rd. Preliminary results of the investigation suggest that the Volkswagen may have crossed the center line and veered into the path of the logging truck.
Blomsma passed away at the scene. Bell was not injured in the crash.
Crash reconstruction and the cleanup of the crash site caused that section of Route 132 to be closed for several hours.
The investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
The Androscoggin Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Wales Fire Department and the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit. Additionally, the Department of Environmental Protection cleaned up the crash site.
