Person on FBI’s Most Wanted List Arrested in New England

According to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a person on the FBI's most wanted list was apprehended in Vermont last week.

The press release explains that, on July 16th, members of the Border Patrol took Nitish Kaushal into custody.  Kaushal, a citizen of India, was on the FBI's most wanted list.

The incident started at around 2 AM,  when Border Patrol agents found an abandoned, disabled New York car blocking Blair Road in Alburgh, near the border. Concerned about cross-border activity, they called the Vermont State Police, State troopers safely removed the vehicle to protect the road and local residents.

At around 6:30 that morning, the authorities received a report of a man trying to break into a home on Blair Road in Alburgh, Vermont.

Records showed that Kaushal had an active immigration notice and a warrant for kidnapping from Los Angeles. He was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted List the day before. Further checks revealed a serious criminal history, including charges for murder and illegal possession of firearms.

When arrested, Kaushal had a small amount of suspected drugs and was taken to a hospital for a possible leg injury. After he received medical clearance, the FBI took over the case.

The press release goes on to explain that this case is a reminder of the important of cooperation between different law enforcement agencies.  And, it reminds us of how key the cooperation of civilians can be when solving cases and apprehending criminals.
