According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the State of Maine Fire Marshal's Office is in the process of investigating a fire that happened in Friendship on Monday evening.

The press release explains that, late Monday night (January 19th), Knox County dispatchers got a 911 call reporting an explosion and fire at a single-family home on North Harbor Cemetery Lane in Friendship.  The call reportedly came in at 9:44 PM.

Friendship Fire crews were first on scene, with help from several neighboring departments. When firefighters arrived, they found an adult woman outside the home. She was identified as a resident and had suffered serious, life-threatening injuries.

Waldoboro Rescue treated her at the scene before she was flown by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Investigators with the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office were called in.

Officials say evidence points to a small explosion inside the home.  Investigators also determined the residence did not have electrical service and was using generators for power.  The home was heated by a fireplace, and propane was being used for cooking. Several propane tanks of different sizes were found in and around the house.

The investigation is ongoing, but officials say the incident is not considered suspicious at this time.  More details will be released as they become available.
