Direct Flights from Maine to Atlanta Are on the Horizon
Let's face it, Maine is kind of out of the way.
While our beautiful state has so much to offer, we lack any major cities and major airports. As a result, mainly because of the latter, it can sometimes be hard to get anywhere.
You can't just hope a plane and fly from point-A to point-B. Instead, you often have several flight changes.
Slowly, however, that is changing.
Over the last few years, we have seen several of the low-coast carriers adding direct flights to popular destinations. Orland and Nashville, for example.
It looks like it will soon be easier to get to Atlanta, too.
According to an article on the WABI website, Delta Airlines will soon be offering direct flights from Bangor International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia.
There will be some restrictions, though. The route will be seasonal. It will be offered from June through about Labor Day. Also, the flights will only be on Saturdays.

Why Atlanta, Georgia?
As Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the hub for Delta Airlines, it makes sense that the airline would offer a direct route from Maine to Atlanta. As a hub, you can hop another Delta flight to basically anywhere. So, even if Atlanta is not your final destination, you'll still be one hop closer to your final destination.
