Former Augusta Mayor, Philanthropist John C. Bridge Passes
According to the KJ, former Augusta mayor, city councilor, and philanthropist John C. Bridge has passed away.
Bridge spent three decades as the President and CEO of Bridge Construction, a company founded by his great-grandfather in 1875. He was the mayor of Augusta from 1997 to 1998 and served several terms as a city councilor and school board member.
Donating over $1 million dollars toward the project, Bridge lead the way in helping to raise the $10 million dollars needed to build the KV YMCA's current facility. Because of his support of that project, and many other local charities, he was named Maine Philanthropist of the Year by the New England Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2005.
In the same year, he was awarded the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce’s lifetime achievement award.
