According to a letter to parents from Dr. Christina Boursaw, the principal of Augusta's Sylvio J. Gilbert Elementary School in Augusta, a notable sixth-grade teacher has passed away.

Guy Meader had been a teacher at the school for nearly two decades.

The letter explains that:

Mr. Meader was an extraordinary educator, colleague, and friend. He was deeply committed to his students and known for his warmth, sense of humor, and how he made every child feel seen, valued and loved. His impact on the Gilbert School community has been immeasurable, and all of us will feel his loss profoundly.

The letter goes on to say that the school plans to honor Mr. Meader's life and legacy in the near future.

In the meantime, there will be additional counseling staff available to students and staff who need someone to talk to about Mr. Meader's tragic passing.

In addition to being a dedicated educator, he was also a husband and father.

While it is always sad to lose a valued member of the community when they are so young, this one hits my family particularly hard.  Mr. Meader taught both of my daughters when they were students at Gilbert School.

Both of them absolutely loved having him as a teacher.  Whatever the subject, Mr Meader always made learning fun.  They were truly excited to get to school and learn new things with Mr. Meader.

While I belive that all of our educators want nothing but the best for their students, there really was something special about Mr. Meader.

You may not realize that, in addition to being a teacher, he was a lover of Maine history and lore.  In fact, he had a YouTube channel where he told stories about Maine.

Guy Meader also had a TikTok account where he taught ways to solve math problems.
