UPDATE: January 1st, 2021 at 8 AM

According to News Center Maine, the storm will roll in earlier than originally expected.  By the time you wake up on Saturday morning, you will probably see snow on the ground in your area.

Central Maine will be under a Winter Weather Advisory for most of Saturday morning.

With the exception of the Mid-Coast, most of the state will see just snow.  On the coast, it will start as a mix and switch to rain by about noon.

Central Maine could see up to 6" of snow.  The coast will see around 3" of snow.

Right now, the jury is still out on Monday's storm.  Depending on the model you look at, it could hit us straight on, dumping a bunch of snow on us.  Or, it could miss us entirely.

Original story follows...

It looks like we'll be kicking off the new year with a really nasty weekend!

According to the meteorology team at WMTW, that storm that has been pummeling the Midwest and Great Lakes will roll into Maine on Saturday morning.  It'll bring snow, ice, and rain to the Pine Tree State.

The storm will start as all snow early Saturday morning, but as it moves through the state, a rain / snow line will develop.  While part of the state will switch to rain, there is a chance for sleet and freezing rain along that line.

By midday on Saturday, outside the western mountains, precipitation across the state will have switched to rain,

While we will see some plowable snow, it does not look like we'll be getting a significant amount of snow.

And, it appears that conditions could be right for us to have another storm on Sunday evening into Monday.

As it is still a few days out, we'll keep an eye on this because it could change.

On the plus side, this snow will be a big benefit to Maine's snowmobile and ski industries.  Two industries that had rough 2019 / 2020 seasons due to a lack of snow and the start of the pandemic.
