The Shocking Home Heating Prices for Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts

Unless you are lucky enough to live in a rental where heat is provided, you have probably spent at least a few minutes thinking about how much money it is going to cost to heat your home this winter.

Even though you may have been able to save a few bucks this summer by limiting how much you ran your air conditioner or fan, there really is no way that you can cut back on heat.  Well, you can cut back, but you cannot eliminate the heat completely.

Unfortunately, rampant inflation has taken its toll on energy prices.

Exactly how much it is going to cost to heat your home depends on several factors including the size of your home, how cold the winter is, and what type of heating you use.

How Much Will It Cost to Heat Your New England Home This Winter?

According to a recent post on the United States Energy Information Administration website, unless temperatures this winter stay above average, you will see an increase in how much you pay to heat your home.

Natural Gas – Assuming the temperatures stay about the same as they were last winter, you can expect to pay about 1% more than you did last winter.  That equates to about $772 for the winter.  If the temperatures are lower than they were last winter you could end up paying about 8% more.  That’s about $827 for the winter.

Electricity – If you use electricity, you will probably see a 5% increase over last winter.  That equates to an average cost of $1,391 this winter.  If it ends up being colder, you could pay as much as $1,500 for the winter.

Propane – Similar to the usage of natural gas, people using propane can expect to pay about 1% more this winter than they did last year.  That equates to about $1,674 for the winter.  If it ends up being colder this winter than it was last winter, you can expect to pay about 13% more this winter.

Heating Oil – There is a little bit of good news for people who heat their homes using heating oil.  The price for heating oil, nationwide, is down by about 5%.  It will cost the average person using heating oil about $1,410 to heat their homes this winter.  If it ends up being warmer this winter, you could end up paying about 12% less than you did last year.  If it ends up being colder, you could pay about 5% more than you did last winter.
