I have lived in Central Maine since I took this job in the summer of 2016.  Actually, I haven't just lived in Central Maine, I have lived in the City of Augusta.  Yes, I have been living in Augusta for over six years.  Because of that, I am even more embarrassed by the story I am about to tell you.  I should know better by now...

I am just hoping that I am not the only one who does this every time I drive this stretch of road.

Whenever I go to The 99 Restaurant, KFC, Great Wall, the DMV, or need to leave town by Civic Center Drive (AKA Route 27) I always end up in the wrong lane.  Every...  single... time!

For those who don't know, if you are heading west on that road, you need to make sure you are in the right lane as you pass by the Marketplace at Augusta.  If you are not in that lane by the time you get to the next light, you are going to have a bad day.

What many people don't realize, and I keep FORGETTING, the left lane must take the turn on to the I-95 southbound.

Of course, if traffic is light, it is no big deal to change lanes.  However, because the road leads to the marketplace, to the Augusta Civic Center, and to downtown Augusta, that road is typically quite busy for the majority of the day.

You would think that, after over six years in the area, I would know better by now.  Nope!  If I had a buck for every time I gave myself an unwanted tour of the I-95, I would have enough for a tank of gas!

Hopefully, this will help you avoid making the same mistakes I do.  As for me, there is a good chance I am going to make the same mistake the next time I travel this road.  It is what it is...

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
