According to an article on the WGME website, a Maine family is recovering after they were ran over by an impaired driver over the weekend.

The driver reportedly crashed onto a sidewalk and struck them during the Loon Festival in Lincoln on Saturday.

According to the Lincoln Police Department, the crash happened Saturday when a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Carl Hartley of Mattawamkeag traveled through the intersection of Main Street and West Broadway and onto the sidewalk, where a family of four was walking.

Jasmine Drew, who spoke from her hospital bed, said she tried to protect the couple's older daughter before becoming pinned beneath the truck.

Drew suffered broken legs, a broken hip, and a fractured bone in her neck.  The couple's 5-year-old daughter suffered a lacerated liver.

Drew's fiancée, Dustin Allen, suffered four broken ribs and severe road rash. Allen said he was able to push their 3-month-old daughter, who was in a stroller, out of the truck's path before he was also struck and pinned. He was eventually able to free himself.

"It was like right as we hit the sidewalk that a car just comes, like, no stopping, nothing, just full force hits us," Drew said. "We had two little girls in the mix of this. Luckily, they're OK, but I mean, it could have been way worse."

Police arrested Hartley at the scene after officers reported observing signs of impairment. Investigators say they also found suspected drugs inside his vehicle that presumptively tested positive for methamphetamine.

Hartley has been charged with aggravated operating under the influence and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs. The investigation remains ongoing.
