Infant Death In Oakland Leads To Drug Arrest

There is almost nothing more tragic than the death of a child.  For many of us, the thought of an infant or toddler passing away makes us physically ill.  But, as odd as it sounds, it appears the recent death of a child on Oakland may have prevented the death of many other people.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, on Tuesday, November 2nd, law enforcement responded to a call at an apartment at 26 Oak Street in Oakland.  A woman at the residence had called 911 to report that her 14 month old son was having a medical emergency.  The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Based on what police observed in the apartment, Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Detectives were called to the scene.

The press release explains:

21-year-old Ashley Malloy called 911 to report her 14-month-old child, Karson Malloy was having a medical emergency. The child was transported to Inland hospital in Waterville where he was pronounced dead. After a preliminary investigation, State Police Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the apartment the child and mother lived in. Inside the apartment, Detectives located  5.85 lbs. of fentanyl, 3.4 lbs. of methamphetamine, 1.35 pounds of crack cocaine, and $2,262 in cash and other items indicative of drug trafficking.

On Thursday, Malloy was charged with Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W drugs.  The drugs reportedly had a street value of $700,000.

Malloy was later released on unsecured bond.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of Karson Malloy's death.
