An Eddington, Maine Infant Had to be Revived Using Narcan

According to an article on the WABI website, an infant is recovering after being revived during a medical emergency in Eddington that investigators believe may be linked to opioid exposure.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home on Clewleyville Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. for a report of a baby in cardiac arrest.

Officials said a sheriff's supervisor who was about a minute away responded immediately. When the supervisor arrived, the infant was unresponsive, not breathing, and had no pulse. The supervisor began CPR with assistance from one of the child's parents.

Investigators said the supervisor administered two doses of Narcan while continuing lifesaving efforts after receiving information that the child may have ingested an unknown substance.

After the second dose of Narcan, the infant began showing signs of life and was successfully revived.

The child was transported to a hospital, where officials said testing detected the presence of an opioid.

No charges have been announced at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, along with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the district attorney's office.
