Central Maine High School is Changing Snow Days to Remote Learning Days, Effective Immediately

Maine weather can certainly be tricky to navigate for Maine schools, especially in the wintertime.

And, what exactly are schools to do when they have used the majority of their allocated snow days before mid-January?

As parents, we certainly don't want our kids to be in school all summer long. Well, maybe some of us do.

But, students certainly don't want to be burdened with having to attend class in the warm summer months, and they shouldn't have to.

That's why one area high school has made the tough decision to, at least for this year, convert snow days to remote learning days.

In an email sent out to parents on Friday, Jamie Soule, Headmaster of China's Erskine Academy, informed parents of the policy change. Soule cited in his letter that the school has already had to use six days this year: two for the tragic Lewiston shooting and four that were weather/power-outage related.

Soule went on to explain that Erskine's commitment, regardless of the weather, remains the same. He said that educational continuity, as well as the quality of students' education, remains paramount to faculty and administrators alike.

What does that mean for parents and students of Erksine?

In short, when there is a school cancellation due to weather, or an unforeseen circumstance, students will still log in to class 'as usual' through Google Classroom and Erskine's online portal.

Soule went on to say in part,

"We understand that adapting to remote learning may present its own challenges, and we are here to assist students and parents during this transition. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we strive to create a learning environment that prioritizes the well-being and education of our students."
