Before we dive into what is shaping up to be a 'doozie' of a storm for Maine this weekend, let's first take a peeky-poo at the next 36 hours, shall we? Tonight (Tuesday) into tomorrow there will be some passing snow showers that are likely to leave Central Maine and surrounding areas with a coating-2" according to WGME.

As we head into Wednesday night and Thursday morning, another area of low pressure will move into Maine and cause freezing rain to fall across a large portion of the state. Bridges says that this type of precipitation is likely to cause 'slick and dangerous' travel conditions overnight on Wednesday into Thursday morning. Though as temps climb on Thursday, he says that driving conditions will improve throughout the day.

Sunday is when our next chance at a decent sized snow event will take place. WGME 13 is reporting that the forecast for Sunday in Maine is continuing to show that a snow event will take place.

As far as the timing of the system, early indications are that it will be a widespread snowfall pretty much all day on Sunday with periods of heavy snowfall throughout the day. The storm, at least at this point, looks like it will move out late Sunday / early Monday.

Now, how much snow are going to get from this storm? We don't actually have a slated snowfall map, though as we get closer to the weekend we expect one to be released. At this point, it looks like we could end up with a 'substantial' snowfall. Good for the snowmobilers and skiers if you ask me!
