Let me first start by saying that the Thompsons are friends of mine. And, like so many others in this community, I was saddened to hear of their recent medical endeavors.

Walker Thompson, Fire Chief of the Vassalboro Fire Department, and his wife Sierra, welcomed their new baby girl, Marleigh, into the world. Shortly thereafter, Sierra was hospitalized from complications that required emergency surgery.

After that, Walker and Sierra's daughter Marleigh was diagnosed with RSV. As you can imagine, RSV at any age is incredibly scarier, but it becomes even more difficult to process when the patient is only four weeks old.

Since her diagnosis at Maine General, Marleigh has been transported via ambulance to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland. As you can imagine, this has caused both Walker and Sierra to be out of work while medical bills are surely mounting.

I spoke briefly with Walker this morning and let him know that we are all thinking of him during this time. He and Sierra are both so incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the Central Maine community. They never expected this kind of love.

Walker told me that while it's still a scary process, Marleigh is showing slight improvements each and every day. I think I speak for all of us when I say we are praying so hard for both Sierra and Marleigh during this incredibly difficult time.

If you would like to help support the Thompson's, a GoFundMe has been set up and you can link to it by clicking here.
